"SLAVERY: THE GAME" ~HOAX OR TEST?
Here is the evidence that big business has absolutely no conscious, concern nor regard for communities who have suffered. This tactic has all of the traits of a market tester. Essentially, whomever created this ridiculous idea wanted to get an idea of who the target audience would be, how they’d respond and if consumers would be interested in buying the product. WOULD YOU BUY THIS? WOULD YOU SPEND OVER FIFTY DOLLARS TO PERPETUATE HATRED?
According to reports, the game trailer sets the user as a slavemaster whose goal is to discipline and punish slaves in order to become the biggest slave trader of the 17th century.
The protagonist is not decisively black (Monkey is more of a tan complexion), but does it matter? The premise alone raises enough eyebrows to warrant a serious debate. I went on to a few video game message boards to see if I was alone in my discomfort. Unsurprisingly, I was not. Walking in the shoes of the oppressed has been done before but not quite like this. The video game fan in me may choose to play Enslaved, but the black man that I am can’t overlook the thinly veiled racial undertones.
