According to NewsOne.com, the New York Giants have suspended star receiver Plaxico Burress in light of his current legal trouble. Mike Bloomberg, the mayor of New York, spoke out against Burress yesterday, saying “I think it would be an outrage it we didn’t prosecute to the fullest extent of the law, particularly people who live in the public domain, who make their living because of their visibility. They are the role models for our kids.” Burress’ lawyer told the Associated Press via email that he was advised the player planned to plead not guilty to criminal possession of a weapon. “I would ask that his fans, the Giants and the media withhold judgment in this matter until all of the facts have been disclosed,” Brafman wrote to the AP.
Burress is facing some serious time due to this case. He shot himself in the right thigh last Friday as he was trying to retrieve his gun and it accidentally went off in a Manhattan night club. Antonio Pierce, teammate of Burress, was with him that night and was interviewd by NFL security about the accidental shooting, according to Giants’ general manager Jerry Reese. UPDATE: The New York State Health Department has launched an investigation to see if the hospital that treated Plaxico engaged in a conspiracy to hide information. They started the investigation after learning that hospital workers failed to report the NFL star’s gunshot wound, as required by New York law. The hospital worker that failed to report the shooting has since been suspended.
Damn! Everyone that came into contact with this fool that night is getting sucked into the drama. Guess money can buy a lot of things, but intelligence clearly isn’t one of them.
