Toure’ and Piers Morgan went toe-t0-toe in front of thousands of viewers and now someone is saying sorry….
MSNBC contributor and cultural critic Toure and CNN”s Piers Morgan got into a heated argument over the Trayvon Martin killing. Toure appeared on Morgan’s CNN show on Friday night, and criticized Morgan for having George Zimmerman’s brother on his show earlier in the week.
“You know, at NBC, in the hallways, we were laughing at you today,” Toure told Morgan. “We wouldn’t take [Robert Zimmerman]. Standards and Practices at NBC wouldn’t let him get through door. And you had him on the air and allowed the hundreds of thousands or tens of thousands or whatever number of people watch your show listen to what he had to say. And you aren’t challenging him the way that you needed you to, the way that we needed you to, the way that other, more responsible journalists are doing.”
Morgan defended his interview, saying he did indeed challenge some of the assertions made by Zimmerman’s brother.
Toure went on to say that because Morgan is from England, he really doesn’t understand why the shooting is such a big deal in the black community in the U.S.
“You’re showing you clearly don’t understand the depth of the pain in the American soul that is at play in this situation,” Toure said.
Piers Morgan was visibly pissed and told Toure to calm down. Morgan said this is “fatuous nonsense.” In other words, this is some bull ish! He went on to say that Toure has revealed himself as NOT being a professional journalist. He brought up the fact that Toure tweeted: New slang, You’re Zimmermaning Me, translation, your killing me. Piers asked how responsible was that?
Toure tried to follow up and pull the race card, but in this case….It didn’t work out for him.
On Saturday Toure took to Twitter to apologize:
I should not have gotten caught up in ‘winning’ the debate with Piers. I got caught up with ‘winning’ on some masculine bravado bs when my whole point has always been justice for this boy. I lost sight of that.
