The Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christies has declared that flags will fly half staff on the day of burial for the infamous New Jersey native. The honor usually reserved only for those who have served in the military, served as law enforcement and/or lost their lives in active duty. Many are up in arms about bestowing this type of tribute to someone who did not do anything to preserve life.
One person even stated that: “The honor is for heroes not junkies” .
(CBS/AP) New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has strongly defended his decision to have flags flown at half-staff Saturday for Whitney Houston, despite receiving emails and other messages disparaging the singer and criticizing him.
The Republican governor said Wednesday that he rejects complaints that Houston “forfeited the good things that she did” because of her struggles with substance abuse.
Those definitely scheduled to attend the private ceremony that will be videotaped with a single camera in the church include but are not limited to: CeCe Winans, Kevin Cosner, Bobbie Kristina, and Aretha Franklin.
Ten days after the Gulf War began, Whitney Houston encouraged a nation to go into battle fearless and undaunted by the tasks at hand. For this moment alone, she may very well have preserved a life.
People are so quick to forget the great contributions and readily embrace the downsides of a life.
