The controversy of the shooting death of Trayvon Martin has reached the sports world where Miami Heat players offered their…..
On the day President Obama commented for the first time on the tragic and fatal shooting of unarmed Trayvon Martin, Miami Heat players, including Dwyane Wade and LeBron James, injected themselves into the conversation with powerful visual statements.
Taking to his Facebook page, Heat star Dwyane Wade posted a photo of himself in a hoodie and put out via Twitter “#hoodies #stereotype #trayvonmartin.”
Also Friday, teammate LeBron James showed a photo on Twitter of Heat players also wearing hooded sweatshirts and added “#WeAreTrayvonMartin #Hoodies #Stereotyped #WeWantJustice.”
Martin, 17, was shot on Feb. 26 in Sanford, Fla., by a Neighborhood Watch captain who has not been charged and claimed he acted in self-defense. The case has raised the issue with Florida’s so-called “Stand Your Ground Law.”
During a brief interview with the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, Wade shared his thoughts about the tragedy.”I’m a father,” Wade said. “It’s support of the tragic thing that has taken place. No matter what color, race, we’re all fathers.
“When you think about what that family’s going through, it hits you hard and it hurts your heart to think about it. Just anything you can do, obviously we can’t bring him back, but anything you can do to get behind and support is what we’re doing.”
