DID YOU KNOW: THAT AFRICAN AMERICAN JOCKEYS DOMINATED THE TRACKS BUT BY 1921 THE SUCCESS OF THE JOCKEY’S MADE THE KENTUCKY ARISTROCRACY ‘UNCOMFORTABLE’, AND THEY BEGAN TO BLACK BALL THE MEN TO THE POINT THAT THE GROUP WAS ERASED FOR EIGHTY YEARS.
The men were originally the slaves of local plantation owners who thought that racing the horses was beneath them, but when fame and fortune began to fall on the ‘negroes’ that THEY had hoisted onto the backs of horses, the greed of the slaveowners determined that their gifts of horseriding were of no more use, instead they began to find white riders to replace the ‘negro’.
