There is a fine line between being artistic and being willfully disrespectful!
“Artists” looking for a come up or perhaps clinching onto whatever little bit of fame they did have are doing the unthinkable! The misuse of God’s name in songs that glorify everything but WHOLE-NESS is a horrible offense.
The Game Ft. Jamie Foxx “Halleluah”
Or is it? Are these songs insighting people to FIGHT for that which they claim to honor so dearly? The visceral reaction to condemn the music rather than reflect and improve upon the believer’s lackadaisical stewardship, seems instinctive. However, in this society the passive aggressive style of protest will likely be the result. You know: opting not to listen to the music (turning the other cheek or ear as it were), or acting as if it doesn’t matter-can potentially do more harm than good.
The mistreatment of the potential greatness in each soul, is a violation regardless of one’s belief. However, if it is not protected, honored and revered then it will continue to be subjected to assault. Whether through song or by the world-individual potential is being challenged on every level. Are you going to fight on your own behalf or let the world dictate its standards for and over your life?
Honestly, the reaction could be a simple matter of not appreciating HOW the message is delivered and by whom. Had the same ‘theme’ been presented by Nas, Mos Def, Common or a more lyrically responsible rapper-the issue may not even exist. Or would it?
The Game “Black Jesus”
Kanye West’s more responsible religious reference…. “Jesus Walks”
Essentially, STOP USING THE LORD’S NAME IN VAIN!!!!
