Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA)-
The Stop Online Piracy Act (known as SOPA) was introduced on Oct. 26 by twelve bipartisan co-sponsors and now before the House Judiciary Committee, is a complicated bill aimed at stopping online piracy.

DEFINITION OF ONLINE PIRACY
The unauthorized reproduction, distribution, and/or performance of copyrighted sound recording in a network environment.

Most certainly online piracy would also include: other information, writings, articles, etc.

Protect IP Act (PIPA)
The Protect IP Act (or PIPA), the Senate version, seeks to do the same thing. Both allow copyright holders and the U.S. Department of Justice to seek court orders against sites illegally hosting content (e.g. streaming feature films) or engaging in illegal activity (e.g. selling counterfeit pharmaceuticals).

PRO:
Essentially The Chamber of Commerce (government) seek to gain alot by regulating a service that is easily accessed by the masses.

CON:
Internet companies and their investors would readily say that they’re holding the “blackout” to protect their corporate interests — and the entire burgeoning Internet-based economy. These companies could stand to lose a significant amount of money if the laws were to pass.
