Twitter is on FIRE with the execution of a cyber based protest. The weapon? BAGS OF SKITTLES?!?!?!
#TrayvonMartin
In viral response to the outrageous slaying of Trayvon Martin, many new age demonstrators are opting to exact tactics that don’t require marching. The passive aggressive call for outraged citizens to mail empty (and/or filled) bags of Skittles to the police chief of the Florida precinct that denied due process-has been heard. Apparently, the action is growing.
MIAMI- Lifting high cans of iced tea and bags of skittles — the same items 17-year-old Trayvon Martin had on his person while shot walking home — Miami residents gathered Wednesday afternoon to protest his tragic death and a lack of charges against the neighborhood watchman who killed him.
Protestors joined together in Liberty City’s Sherdavia Jenkins Peace Park, named after a 9-year-old girl who was killed by a stray bullet while playing in her front yard in 2006. Carrying signs reading “Trayvon Today Who Tomorrow,” “Justice For Trayvon,” and “How Many More Trayvons,” marchers lifted hands in prayer and chanted “We want justice!”
Trayvon’s parents joined hundreds at a “million hoodie march” in New York on Wednesday March 21, 2012- while nearly a million people have signed a petition at Change.org calling for Zimmerman’s arrest.
Protestors are sending their bags of Skittles to:
Chief, Bill Lee
Sanford Police
815 West 13th Street, Sanford, Fl 32771
The FBI has opened an investigation into the case.
