Despite best efforts including a name change, Ron Artest came back to visit the NBA courts last night. His behavior may likely land him in another type of COURT!! What should be the consequence? Should there be a penalty?
Has Ron Artest METTA WORLD PEACE lost his mind? Last night during the Lakers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder game, World Peace delivered a disturbing elbow to Harden’s dome.
CHECK OUT THIS NONSENSE…. yep judgement rendered!
C’mon son really?!!?!?! Ron Artest METTA WORLD PEACE (MWP) needs to be suspended without pay for more than a few games!! Based on the evidence, World didn’t even flinch when he made contact with Harden’s head. If in fact it was an accident, the natural response is to extend a hand to the person to whom your elbow ‘accidentally’ knocked in the head or at the very least to look back to see if the fallen individual is alright.
Harden fell hard to the floor as Kevin Durant and Serge Ibaka of the Thunder moved toward World Peace. Other players quickly stepped in and, although World Peace argued that the elbow was inadvertent, he was given a flagrant foul type 2 and ejected. There is no doubt that a significant suspension will follow.
Harden stayed down and play was stopped for several minutes while the referees separated Lakers and Thunder players who were arguing and the flagrant 2 determination was only made after the collision was reviewed on a video monitor at center court.
Concussions and other related head injuries are serious matters.
According to the LA TIMES MWP said:
“During that play, I just dunked on Durant and Ibaka. I got real emotional, real excited,” World Peace said “It’s unfortunate that James had to get hit with an unintentional elbow. I hope he’s okay. The Thunder, they’re playing for a championship this year. I really hope he’s okay and I apologize to the Thunder and to James Harden. It was such a great game. It was unfortunate so much emotion was going on at that time. That’s it for today.”
*SIDE EYE/SMIRK*
This dude has been exhibiting less than sportsmanly conduct for years.
World Peace, winner of the NBA’s Citizenship Award last season, has had a checkered career that includes 13 past suspensions for a total of 111 games. He changed his name from Ron Artest last summer and had come a long way from the 86-game suspension he earned after the Malice at the Palace, what Grantland calls “the scariest moment in NBA history.”
UPDATE as of April 24, 2012:
Metta World Peace formerly known as Ron Artest will be suspended from seven NBA games as a result of striking Harden in the head with his elbow.
