According to Channel 9, DC announced its plan to join 15 other states that allow citizens to use marijuana for medical purposes.

The District will open dispensaries that dole out the marijuana to patients who qualify, officials said Wednesday afternoon.
“The rules are being published on an emergency basis in order to expedite the District’s ability to meet the needs of residents who are suffering from serious illnesses that can be effectively treated with medical marijuana,” Mayor Vincent Gray’s office said in a news release.
