Right here in Washington D.C. the Smithsonian National Native American Museum is one of the best I have seen regarding the “evolution” of the Native American culture as it continues to interface with outside cultures. These outsiders have continued to try to extract the SPIRIT of the people that have self proclaimed their allegiance to the earth and the Creator. However, many Native Americans acculturated to the ways of other cultures that “looked” like them for purposes of survival. In North Carolina in particular, it is very difficult to differentiate the Black Indians from the “pure breeds” or “pure bloods”. Because of the years of intermingling of races, it was very easy to blur the lines between the two cultures.
